The NIST elliptic curves (P-192, P-224, P-256, P-384, P-521) were created in the late 1990s by hashing the initial values provided by the NSA. How were these initial values created? Rumor has it that these were the hash values of English sentences, but the man who picked them, Dr. Jerry Solinas, died in early 2023, leaving behind a cryptographic mystery, several conspiracy theories, and a historic password-cracking challenge.
A reward will be paid to the first person(s) to email the initial values for the five NIST simple order curves to seeds@filippo.io.
